Terms and Conditions
These Terms & Conditions govern all bookings, ticket purchases and visits to The Canterbury Tales Immersive Experience, operated by The Canterbury Tales Experience Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”). By purchasing a ticket or entering the venue, you agree to comply with these terms.
2.1 Ticket Types
We offer standard tickets, discounted group tickets and school bookings. Pricing may vary by date and time
2.2 Booking Protection Add-On
Guests may purchase optional Booking Protection (£2) at checkout.
With Booking Protection:
• Bookings may be rescheduled up to 1 hour before the scheduled start time.
• Changes can be made through the customer portal.
Without Booking Protection:
• No rescheduling, date changes or amendments are permitted for any reason.
2.3 Refunds
Tickets are non-refundable unless the attraction cancels the event.
2.4 Transferring Tickets
Tickets may be transferred to another person. Each ticket may only be used once
2.5 Walk Ins
Walk-ins are welcome but online booking is recommended to secure preferred dates and times.
3.1 Arrival Time
Guests should arrive 5–10 minutes before their time slot. Your booking time is your entry time.
3.2 Late Arrivals
If you arrive late, we will endeavour to move you to the next available time slot, but this is not guaranteed. No refund will be issued if you miss your scheduled entry.
3.3 Entry Refusal
We reserve the right to refuse entry or remove any guest who:
• Is intoxicated
• Behaves disruptively
• Endangers staff, other guests or the venue
• Fails to follow staff instructions
No refunds are issued in these cases.
4.1 Recommended Age
The experience is recommended for ages 6+, but younger children are welcome at a parent or guardian’s discretion.
4.2 Parental Responsibility
Adults accompanying guests under 18 assume full responsibility for their wellbeing and behaviour. Please keep children close at all times.
4.3 Sensitive Content
The experience includes one darker scene exploring themes of death. This is clearly signposted, and guests may choose to bypass it.
5.1 Wheelchair Access
We strive to be accessible, but due to limitations of our Grade II listed building, wheelchairs cannot easily navigate the attraction route. We regret these restrictions.
If you require assistance or have accessibility questions, please contact us before booking.
5.2 Carer Tickets
We offer free 1:1 carer tickets to qualifying guests. Proof of eligibility may be required.
5.3 Health and Safety
The experience includes:
• Flashing and strobe lighting
• Loud sound effects
• Uneven flooring
• Atmospheric spaces
• Smoke effects
Guests with conditions affected by these elements should contact us before booking.
6.1 Touching Props and Sets
Guests must not touch sets, props or show elements.
Damage caused by ignoring this rule may result in liability for repair costs.
6.2 Prohibited Items
Weapons, imitation weapons, dangerous items and anything deemed unsafe by staff are not permitted
6.3 Smoking, Vaping and External Food
• Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the venue.
• Outside food, drinks and chewing gum are not permitted.
• Only food and drink purchased on-site may be consumed.
6.4 Removal of Property
Visitors must not remove or attempt to remove any props, decorations, set pieces or items from The Canterbury Tales Immersive Experience.
Doing so constitutes theft, and prosecution may follow.
6.5 CCTV
The venue is monitored by CCTV for safety, security and operational purposes.
7.1 Guest Photography
To protect the atmosphere of the experience, photography and video recording are not permitted during the walkthrough.
Photos may be taken in:
• The Chequers of Hope Tavern
• The Gift Shop
7.2 Venue Photography
We occasionally photograph or film inside the venue for marketing and documentation. Guests may appear in background shots.
If you do not wish to appear, please inform a member of staff before entering the venue.
8.1 Costumes Are Welcome
Guests are welcome to dress in medieval-inspired costumes to enhance their visit.
8.2 Family Appropriate
Costumes must be appropriate for a family attraction. Outfits that are overly frightening, graphic, revealing or inappropriate for children are not allowed.
8.3 No Weapons
No real or imitation weapons may be brought into the venue, including:
• Swords
• Axes
• Daggers
• Bows
• Anything that could be misinterpreted as dangerous
8.4 Costume Safety
Costumes must not hinder the experience for others. Please avoid:
• Tall hats or headpieces that block views
• Long trailing robes or items dragging on the floor
• Large wings, armour pieces or bulky accessories
• Anything posing a tripping hazard
Staff may require costume adjustments for safety or accessibility reasons
9.1 Alcohol
The Chequers of Hope Tavern serves authentic medieval alcoholic beverages.
Alcohol may only be consumed by guests aged 18+, and valid ID may be required. Due to the nature of the venue we operate a 2 drink maximum inside the tavern.
9.2 Responsible Service
The Chequers of Hope Tavern serves ice to intoxicated guests or anyone acting inappropriately.9.1
10.1 Deposits
Large groups and schools must pay a 50% deposit to secure a booking.
Groups may book via invoice or through our online booking system.
10.2 Cancellations
Group bookings must cancel or reschedule no later than 4 weeks before their visit.
After this point:
• Payments are non-refundable
• Dates cannot be changed
11.1 Validity
Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
11.2 Refunds & Extensions
Vouchers are non-refundable and cannot be extended.
All content within the attraction including sets, characters, scripts, animatronics, soundscapes, projections, animations and motion capture is the intellectual property of The Canterbury Tales Experience Ltd.
Any copying, recording or reproduction is prohibited.
13.1 Personal Property
We accept no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal belongings.
13.2 Personal Risk
Guests acknowledge that the experience includes uneven floors and atmospheric environments and agree to exercise reasonable care.
13.3 Limitation of Liability
Our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by UK law.
The Terms and Conditions govern all bookings and visits to The Canterbury Tales Immersive Experience. Purchase or use of a ticket constitutes acceptance of these terms. The Canterbury Tales Experience Ltd reserves the right to modify these Terms & Conditions without notice.
