What is The Canterbury Tales Experience?

A fully immersive, story-led journey that brings Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales to life through atmospheric scenes, sound, lighting and visual effects. Guests move through the experience in small groups as the stories unfold around them.

No. This is an entirely new and original experience. We have worked with top-level production companies to create a modern immersive attraction featuring projections, projection mapping, holograms and special effects, offering a completely new way to experience the tales of Canterbury.

Yes, it’s engaging, visual and family-friendly. We recommend it for ages 6+, but younger children are welcome at your discretion.

Infants are welcome to attend. Please be aware that some moments within the experience may be darker or slightly frightening, though these are always preceded by a warning. Buggy space is limited and we do not have dedicated buggy parking, so we recommend that infants are carried in a sling where possible. Infants under 5 years old may attend free of charge – please add a free infant ticket when booking.

Your journey lasts around 45–60 minutes, including time at the end to explore our medieval tavern and gift shop.

Due to the nature of the Grade 2 Listed building, we regret that the experience is not wheelchair accessible. We offer 1:1 free carer tickets for attendees needing extra support.

The experience is delivered in clear, easy-to-understand English. It’s great for international visitors and language-learning groups.

Drinks only. At the end of the experience, guests may visit The Chequers of Hope Inn for a taste of medieval Canterbury.

No, lockers are not available on site. We recommend travelling light where possible.

Walk-ins are always welcome, but we strongly recommend booking ahead, especially during weekends and holidays.

Photography is allowed in the Tavern at the end of the experience, but not during the walkthrough to preserve the atmosphere and storytelling.
